The right ventilation solution can remove the excess moisture produced by everyday activities which causes condensation, damp, and mould problems.
Condensation in homes and buildings occurs when humid air is over saturated with water vapour. When this warm, wet air can’t escape the property, it moves to cold surfaces like windows and outward facing walls, then saturates these surfaces.
Signs of condensation may include:
- Water build-up on cool surfaces like tiles, wooden floors, windows, and mirrors.
- Peeling wallpaper and cold, damp walls.
- Dank, musty smells.
- Mildew or mould behind sofas, on clothes, or in the corner of rooms.
- Black mould on the skirting boards or walls, between tiles, and around windows.
There are many damp ‘cures’ available, but few are practical, affordable, or get to the source of the problem to get rid of it for good. To stop condensation forming and creating damage within the property, that humid air needs to be let out.
Opening a window to release moist air is a simple and effective way to lower the risk of condensation. However, it’s not always practical to keep the windows open all year around and most forms of passive or intermittent ventilation can’t provide adequate air circulation.
An alternative solution to ventilating the whole property is PIV or Positive Input Ventilation.
PIV utilises positive pressure to push humid air out of the property, without the need of keeping windows and doors open. PIV also brings in new, fresh, and filtered air into the property and has been proven to improve indoor air quality for millions of homes across the UK.
Nuaire’s best-selling PIV unit, the Drimaster, can shift the excess moisture from the property which causes damp, condensation, and mould problems. It’s easy to install and retrofit into existing 2 and 3 storey homes with lofts and requires very little maintenance.
The Drimaster has been independently tested by the BBA and proven by the Building Research Establishment (BRE) to help Local Authorities meet their National Air Quality objectives. The Drimaster is fully compliant under Building Regulation parts F and L.
