Following consultation undertaken in 2013 Bandstand Square Developments Ltd (BSDL) submitted two major planning applications for the redevelopment of the western part of town centre to deliver a new fire station and Victoria Square, a comprehensive, retail led mixed use development.
The Victoria Square proposals deliver 10, 967sqm of new retail floorspace anchored by Marks & Spencer; a 190 bed four star hotel with conference facilities, spa and gym in a 21 storey tower; 392 residential apartments in two towers of 28 and 34 storeys; space for a medical centre; 380 additional car parking spaces, and two new public plazas. The redevelopment also provides the opportunity to change the way pedestrians and cars move around this part of the town centre through the realignment of Cawsey Way and the change of the High Street to one way only. The proposal will mark another exciting step forward for Woking building on the success of the other recent projects in the town centre.
The Victoria Square application is currently being considered by Woking Borough Council, and we anticipate a decision will be made in late 2014. The Fire Station proposals deliver a new fire station on Goldsworth Road, larger than the existing, with residential units above, which will be delivered prior to the decommissioning of the existing facility. Planning permission was granted for the Fire Station on 8th May 2014, following consideration at the planning committee on 2nd April 2014.
