The North Hykeham Energy Recovery Facility will dramatically reduce the amount of waste that Lincolnshire residents currently send to landfill. It will treat up to 150,000 tonnes of residual household and commercial waste each year and, as a result, will generate around 11 megawatts of renewable electricity for sale to the local network. This is the equivalent amount of electricity required to power 15,000 homes.
The building is 190m long, 30m wide, at its peak reaches 45m high and has a 75m chimney stake. The project is estimated to have cost £145 million and will operate 24 hours a day creating 33 new jobs.
