The New South Glasgow Hospitals Project is the largest design and construction project in Scotland and an introduction for Brookfield Multiplex into the Scottish market.

The hospital is being built on the site of the existing Southern General Hospital in the south-west of the city. The publicly funded development, scheduled for completion in 2015, will give Glasgow one of the most advanced hospitals in the UK and will be the largest critical care complex in Scotland.

The Project comprises a 25,000m2 Laboratories facility which is now complete and handed over to NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, and a 166,000m2 Adult and Children’s Hospital. The main hospital provides 1,109 beds all with en-suite facilities and view outwards to encourage natural daylight into the building. It will have one of the largest Emergency Departments in Scotland as well as being home to major specialised services such as renal medicine, transplantation and vascular surgery.

The hospital also has a link to the maternity and existing neurology facilities, together with hard and soft landscaping for easy access by both public and private transport. The facility also includes a transport hub picking up the new fast link service together with open public realm spaces, including gardens and parks.

The Children’s hospital has 256 beds and creates a welcoming environment for the children to be treated in a place filled with art and soft textures which distracts them from their ailments.

Both hospitals are joined as one to share core services but both have separate identified and distinctive entrances for their respective recipients.
