The Krasnaya Polyana Railway Station was a key part of the development of the £30 billion Sochi Winter Olympic Games. The new Krasnaya Polyana Railway Station to serve the mountain area for the Alpine and Nordic events.
Construction of the station began back in 2010. The site, about 15 thousand square metres in its entirety, was initially secured by extensive drainage systems and a 357-metre long retaining wall against flooding and landslides. The station buildings stand on platforms supported by pile foundations. The station has two platforms with undulating canopies and has been constructed adjacent to a hillside. Specification criteria included very stringent security requirements and a building that would be both comfortable for travellers and harmonious in the surrounding landscape near the Caucasus Mountains.
