Farrells Hong Kong office have been appointed to design a new recreational club for the emergency services in Hong Kong.
This exciting scheme is part of a multibillion-dollar infrastructure project for the new Shatin to Central Link in Kowloon and Hong Kong Island. The site, in Causeway Bay, is one of Hong Kong harbour’s most prominent locations and the new Club will include a wide variety of facilities including sports and recreation amenities, primarily for the police.
As part of the infrastructure development, new cross harbour tunnels are being proposed underneath the site of the existing club. To allow for the new tunnels’ flood gates and ventilation buildings, the existing building will have to be demolished and redesigned to allow for these additional elements. One of the main challenges of the project is to provide all the facilities that the existing club has but on a significantly reduced area of the site. Additionally, the harbour-side location comes with an onerous height restriction precluding any increase in height over the existing 3 storey building.
