The works involved the erection of a new station building to the west of the existing station in the former station yard on the south side of the railway; where the historic carriage ramp meets a Grade II listed railway viaduct. The new station entrance was given a glass façade and the buildings were wrapped in mesh. Internally stair and lift access was provided for both platforms. The station platforms were resurfaced and new more extensive canopies erected, (including glazing of the listed bridge). A new ticket office and staff room facilities were constructed within the arches of the listed viaduct. New public address system, CCTV and CIS systems were also installed. Works also included new Banner Repeater Signal installation and bridge restoration.
