Daruma’s site is located on Kowloon, Hong Kong. Owner Charlie Chan has approached Design Haus Liberty with a brief to revamp his current brand which is now the “Best Noodle Shop in Hong Kong” according to Time Out Hong Kong. Daruma wanted to create a look that was Japanese influenced, modern and clean. DH Liberty decided to use traditional Japanese building material such as concrete and wood, mixed with a modern twist- the screen facade which surrounded the restaurant. The screen looks like abstract artwork when viewed from afar but if one looks at it from the front it reads the Kanji character for “mein” meaning noodles.
DH Liberty wanted to continue their design influence in the graphics and design of the packaging as well as the products. The result was a noodle bowl based off of traditional Ramen soup pouring where the exact amount of soup is ladled into individual bowls; these bowls create a star shape on the bottom which indicates the pouring line in each.
