Aberdeenshire Council’s Education, Learning and Leisure Service has identified that Alford Primary School and Alford Academy can no longer cope with the number of pupils zoned to attend it. As a result of this it has been agreed that a replacement Alford Community Campus will be built in the town. The proposed site for the new school is on Greystone Road, to the west of the existing school campus.
The design, build, finance and maintain contract will see Miller providing facilities and lifecycle management services for the building for 25 years following completion of the new build.
The Campus has been designed to meet the needs of future generations and will replace Alford’s existing primary and secondary schools which are located to the east of the new site. The scheme comprises nursery, primary and secondary education facilities with integrated public facilities including a library, swimming pool, indoor and outdoor sports facilities including natural and artificial pitches and car parking.
This project is being delivered by hub North Scotland Limited as part of phase 3 of the Scottish Government Scotland’s Schools for the Futures Programme and has been developed in partnership with the Scottish Futures Trust.
Miller Construction, a Tier 1 contractor for hub North Scotland Limited, has been appointed as main contractor on the project and has been on site since October 2013 delivering enabling works. Main construction works will begin in coming weeks and completion is scheduled for October 2015.
