Merantun Development Ltd. (MDL) has appointed Weston Williamson + Partners (WW+P) to lead the design, planning and delivery of private rented sector homes for East Merton. The first phase of development will see the construction of approximately 77 new, high quality apartments across four sites in the London Borough of Merton.
The initial design process is already underway and WW+P will be engaging with local communities on the designs soon, prior to submitting planning applications in late spring 2019.
Bea Young, Partner at WW+P says:
“We are delighted to be working with Merantun on four exciting and individual new sites utilising this new rental market model. We have brought together a team of key consultants, who are all experts in delivering high quality designs, and are very pleased to be contributing to Merton’s housing targets.”
PRS is a growing market in London’s housing offer, bridging the gap for many between social housing and private home ownership. Merantun, which is wholly owned by Merton Council, will also build properties for social housing to be managed by a Housing Association. The proportion of affordable homes will be compliant with Merton’s planning policies.
James McGinlay, Managing Director of Merantun says:
“We are proud to be working with Weston Williamson + Partners at this incredibly exciting time for Merantun. The teams at WW+P and Merantun will create beautiful and innovative new homes for Merton.
“Delivering high quality homes for both rent and the affordable sector is a challenge across London. Merantun is responding to this challenge bringing to life, a range of small site developments. Our apartments will be a quality offer for an emerging rental market in Merton and will be exemplar developments for their neighbourhoods.”
WW+P’s partners for this project are Rolfe Judd, Elliot Wood, Vector Design, BPG Ltd and Warhurst Bourne.
The practice has previously worked with Merton on the masterplan for Wimbledon town centre.
