Landlords looking to invest in Croydon or stay on top of industry best practice are invited to attend one of two free council-run events this month.
The events offer support ranging from fire safety tips and briefings on new legislation to networking opportunities and advice about taking on tenants who receive Universal Credit.
The first event for owners of privately-rented Croydon properties is on Friday 25 January, when the Jury’s Inn in Wellesley Road will host the landlords’ forum between 9am to 5pm. The day will include a mixture of advice stalls, one-hour presentations and networking.
The other event is for landlords looking to invest in the borough through Croydon Lettings, a council initiative set up last year to match private landlords with tenants, including those with disabilities.
Held from 9.15am to 4pm on Tuesday 29 January at Braithwaite Hall in Croydon town hall, the Croydon Lettings event will give landlords briefings on the scheme’s benefits, which include:
- Avoiding all letting agent fees and potentially saving up to £4,000
- Free tenancy training for renters who are new to the private sector
- Rent paid to landlords via Direct Debit
- A dedicated council adviser offering wraparound support
The Croydon Lettings event will be the third of its kind since it began last year, and already the landlords of 28 properties in Croydon have signed up to increase the supply of private rented properties available to local residents, who can access council financial support with their move.
Tenants benefit from financial management support and subsidised moves, while benefits to landlords include a wider pool of vetted tenants, guaranteed rent and no agent fees. For more information on the council’s other lettings schemes, visit the council website.
Councillor Alison Butler, Croydon Council’s deputy leader and cabinet member for homes and Gateway services, said:
“The council has expanded its tenancy advice services to both renters and landlords because it improves the local housing market for everyone, and these events give property owners the extra tools and confidence to invest in Croydon. I look forward to these events going from strength to strength.”
