Leading regeneration specialist, Vistry Partnerships, part of the Vistry Group and leading housebuilder, Barratt Developments Plc have joined forces to deliver 760 much-needed new homes in Bridport, Dorset.
Set to include over 120 affordable homes, large areas of public open space and a raft of wildlife and ecological enhancements, this will be a highly sustainable, contemporary new community and a crucial step in tackling Dorset’s housing crisis.
The new development will offer a wide range of homes from contemporary apartments and two-bedroom houses suitable for first time buyers and people looking to downsize to three, four and five-bedroom homes for growing families, paving the way for a vibrant, mixed community on the edge of the market town.
The development of the new homes will unlock the delivery of a new primary school, local retail centre, employment land and a care home, in turn delivering significant community infrastructure, including high-quality wildlife friendly landscaping, an orchard and allotments, cycle routes and footpaths, promoting health, well-being and connectivity to Bridport town centre. The development will provide significant investment into the local economy, supporting over 2,000 jobs in Bridport and beyond.
Bringing the talents and expertise from both businesses, the pair will create a leading consortium responsible for the delivery of the new homes and associated infrastructure. Vistry Partnerships’ experience in partner delivery and longstanding relationships with local authorities, housing associations and investors, aligns perfectly with Barratt David Wilson’s knowledge and proven track record in land, design, construction and sales. The organisations have a shared vision to create the highest quality homes, both awarded 5* status from the HBF, and vibrant communities where people aspire to live, and the partnership has been formed to increase housing supply and create a sustainable new community on the edge of the town.
The partnership has exchanged contracts to acquire and develop the site and bring forward the open market and affordable homes, associated infrastructure and all Section 106 obligations as part of the outline planning consent for the land at Vearse Farm.
The site, which is to become a key part of the town’s planned urban extension, is located off the A35 outside Bridport. 515 of the new homes will be delivered by Barratt Developments under both the Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes brands. Vistry Partnerships will deliver the remaining 245 homes, selling their open market homes under the Bovis Homes brand.
Stephen Teagle, CEO Vistry Partnerships said: “I’m delighted we’ve formed this partnership with another leading housebuilder in Barratt Developments. As our proposals progress, we will be engaging stakeholders ahead of submitting a detailed planning application this summer. By working together and pooling our resources we can accelerate the number of new homes across all tenures and deliver important community infrastructure that will leave a positive and lasting legacy for the community as a whole.”
Philip Barnes, Group Land & Planning Director, Barratt Developments, added: “We’re proud to be working with our partners at Vistry to bring forward a vibrant new community for Bridport, delivering much-needed new homes and supporting local jobs, businesses and the Dorset economy. As well as a wide range of new homes, the development will include substantial open space from recreational areas to allotments, footpaths and cycle ways celebrating and protecting nature and the environment and supporting health and wellbeing.”
Bridport is a well-connected, vibrant town with an eclectic mix of independent shops, cafes and restaurants that give the town a wonderfully welcoming atmosphere whilst being only 3 miles from West Bay, which has been made famous as a favourite filming spot.
