Thirteen has formally entered into a legal partnership with Middlesbrough Council to develop 145 new affordable and much-needed homes in the Gresham neighbourhood.
The high-quality new homes will all be for affordable rent and include two to four-bedroom homes with a mix of houses, apartments, and bungalows, on land that was cleared a number of years ago between Diamond Road and Union Street.
Thirteen is investing £20m in the phase one of the development and the first of the new homes should be available to rent in summer 2022.
Ian Wardle, Thirteen’s chief executive, said,
“We’re thrilled to have completed this partnership with Middlesbrough Council and that this development is finally getting started.”
“It’s been a long time in the making, and we’re excited to be working with Middlesbrough Council, Homes England and others to deliver these fantastic new homes in the heart of the town, contributing to the revival of this great neighbourhood.”
“Plus, we’re delighted to have awarded the construction contract to get this 7.5-acre development underway.”
Mayor of Middlesbrough, Andy Preston, added,
“In the toughest of times, this is yet more truly positive news for Middlesbrough as we stride towards transforming the centre of our town.”
“This partnership between the Council and Thirteen is the latest step in the right direction towards bringing many more people back to living in and around our town centre.”
“That will mean people spending more money with our shops, restaurants, bars and other businesses. That can only be good news.”
“Well done to Thirteen for again supporting our vision for offering affordable housing for a wide range of local people.”
