Adopting Cloud-based Monitoring for Pump Station Success
With over 65 years of keeping your liquids under control, T-T Pump’s six divisions work seamlessly to provide comprehensive liquid management solutions. And when it comes to adoptable pumping stations, completing this complex procedure in-house is key to low-stress success.
Growth & Innovation
Since beginning as a general engineering company in the 50s, T-T has expanded to include six divisions innovating across all industries – Pumps, Valves, Agricultural & Environmental, Pumping Stations, Controls & Automation and Service.
With a comprehensive catalogue of products and a versatile team of experts on hand, T-T is a one stop shop for complete waste management and potable water solutions.
Adoptable Pumping Stations
T-T’s selection of equipment and services includes the provision of adoptable pumping stations – a practical sewage and surface water management solution for housing developments where the station is adopted by the local Water Authority.
After adoption, the adopting authority are responsible for the system’s running and maintenance, taking the management and costs from the developer.
Despite its long-term monetary and logistical benefits, achieving successful pump station adoption can be a challenging process.
The Process
Before being considered for adoption, a station’s design must satisfy Design Construction Guidance (DCG) specification as well as the relevant Water Authority’s addendum to these.
Once the design is approved by all parties, a site programme is established and manufacturing begins. Any delays during this time can cause logistical complications and contractual penalties, pushing back the project’s expected completion date and increasing overall costs.
Post installation and commissioning, Water Authorities typically require a 12-month maintenance period managed by the developer before final adoption – this is traditionally triggered when the development reaches 50% occupancy.
During this period the station is solely the developer’s responsibility, including all telemetry, alarms and expenses. Effective system maintenance is required to avoid costly breakdowns, emergency callouts, environmental damage and even legal consequences.
How can this process be optimised to bring developers the benefits of an adoptable pumping station without the unexpected costs and logistical stresses? As a true one-stop-shop, T-T Pumps has the solution.
In-House, In Hand
Having completed adoptable pumping stations for all UK Water Authorities, T-T are experts in their requirements, expectations and current legislation, allowing them to deliver stations both fast and cost-effectively.
Their experts are uniquely equipped to complete everything from the initial design to the final maintenance period thanks to on-site facilities, advanced design software and diversely trained team members.
T-T’s Solution
Design – T-T utilise 2D and 3D design software packages to prepare complete mechanical engineering drawings and electrical schematics for submission to the Water Authority. Continuous communication with the Water Authority and site developers ensures all necessary design aspects are covered from the start.
Equipment – The design is approved and a detailed programme is produced. T-T avoids costly delays and supply chain issues by supplying from their large stockholding of materials and equipment on-site where they produce a high proportion of key components. With complete manufacturing and testing facilities, their engineers guarantee all components pass rigorous checks in accordance with relevant legislation and their own quality assurance procedures.
Installation – Prior to the installation, T-T meets with key members of the development to finalise site requirements and preparations, allowing their engineers to begin uninterrupted. With extensive electrical and mechanical training, T-T safely and swiftly complete the installation. Following this, a full report is given to the developer that highlights any areas in need of further attention regarding civil, mechanical or electrical works prior to commissioning.
Commissioning – Post installation, engineers revisit to undertake commissioning, ensuring that every aspect of the system is operational, meets the required safety standards and conforms to the DCG’s and Water Authority’s specifications. After this, a final commissioning report and a certificate of electrical completion – in accordance with BS7671 requirements for electrical installation – is issued to the site developer.
Maintenance period – All T-T products are produced with reliability at the forefront; including a 12-month warranty as standard to protect against defective parts. T-T mitigate the costly consequences of system faults with their range of combined monitoring and telemetry systems – Seer Monitoring.
Seer Monitoring & Telemetry
The Seer range consists of four unique models that offer various connection types, notification options and variables that they can monitor. These advanced telemetry units communicate the performance of a pump station in real time via secure cloud-based technology – 24 hours a day, 365 days a year for complete peace of mind.
Seer Monitoring reduces costs for developers during the maintenance period with instant access to live and historical data. From logged data an image of a station’s regular operating conditions can be formed and compared with live data for predictive analysis purposes. This can help to predict failures, implement proactive maintenance and avoid breakdowns.
This historical data can also be used to support in the pre-adoption handover process as evidence of the station’s continual 12-month operation.
Seer provides site developers with the confidence that their pumping station is monitored continuously, offering customisable alert notifications via email to suit the needs of different sites. Users can define the conditions they want to monitor, customise severity levels for different variables and establish recipient preferences according to a predetermined schedule, meaning you can ensure there is always someone on alert should an issue arise.
