Survey shows wider cavities are becoming the new standard

As building standards for energy efficiency tighten, the popularity of wider wall cavities is growing. A recent survey1 found that 77% of respondents who build masonry cavity walls are already building with 150mm cavities or are planning to. Notably, a survey of housebuilders in 20232 found that 41% of participants had made the switch to wider cavities.

A significant benefit of building with 150mm cavities is that it allows you to achieve the performance you need, using products like DriTherm® Cavity Slab 32, which is:

  • Easier to install correctly, reducing the likelihood of air gaps and allowing real-world thermal performance that lives up to your design.
  • Non-combustible, with a Euroclass A1 reaction to fire classification, providing greater peace-of-mind.
  • Glass mineral wool, which has the lowest levels of embodied carbon of any mainstream insulation material in the UK, helping you to build lower carbon homes.

After using this insulation in a wider cavity, Andy Davies, Director of Inox Construction, said “Using mineral wool in a 150mm cavity was significantly faster than using boards… It was painless to achieve a snug fit with the DriTherm® Cavity Slabs.”

Stay ahead of evolving construction standards.
