Klick Laboratories specialise in the design of laboratory furniture and the fit out of lab facilities.
Laboratory space is a valuable asset and with growing pressure on space for scientific research it is important to make the most of any resources. Klick understand the demands placed on busy labs and create inspiring and flexible facilities to meet those needs.
With 40 years’ experience in laboratory design Klick’s strength is in developing smart solutions to provide a streamlined and user friendly workspace. During the consultation period processes and challenges are discussed with all stakeholders, so that layouts can be developed to improve workflow and maximise efficiencies.
Future Proofing
In a fast-paced scientific environment mobile furniture systems are often specified, in combination with flexible service solutions in order to future proof the workspace. Using a combination of modular cabinets and lab benching it is possible to reconfigure the layout with minimal disruption.
Klick provide BIM compatible Revit 3D visuals which help clients visualise their new environment and make informed decisions.
Guidance can also be offered on fittings and materials. Working closely with work top suppliers such as Trespa and Velstone, Klick offer compact laminate and solid surface options with advice on work top suitability for specific chemical use or durability.
A comfortable work environment is critical to lab users and Klick provide technical advice on HVAC solutions and fume cupboards.
Laboratory Fit Out & Refurbishment
As part of their service Klick also offer a full laboratory fit out and refurbishment service. Their specialist knowledge of laboratory furniture allows them to integrate all the Mechanical & Electrical services with the furniture design. Klick’s consultants initially discuss client requirements for power, specialist gases, water and outlet locations and then design a safe and efficient workplace to comply with all laboratory standards. Klick can manage partitioning of buildings, mezzanine installation and all aspects of fit out projects, co-ordinating the necessary contractors to minimise time on site and keep costs down.
Lab Fit Out Case Study
An example of Klick’s fit out expertise is the recent project at Biofortuna in Deeside.
Flexible Lab Furniture
One of the main priorities for Biofortuna was to allow for further expansion of the business. With plans to double the number of employees over the next 18 months, this required a flexible approach in designing the 16,500 sq ft building and how the labs would be equipped.
Bespoke lab areas were designed to create optimum flexibility. A combination of free-standing lab tables and mobile cabinets allow for the furniture layouts to be changed with minimal disruption. This means any changes in workflow or staffing levels can easily be accommodated at short notice; equipment can also be moved without the need for outside experts which in turn minimises downtime.
Flexible service solutions were installed in the central lab, where power is received through a daisy-chained network running in the cable management systems of the lab workstations.
Specialist HVAC systems were also installed to support all the various laboratory functions.
A fob entry system was specified to restrict access to defined areas. In addition to general security this helps to control movement of the staff so that they follow the correct path from the changing area and into the various different laboratories in the correct sequence.
A 3,600ft mezzanine floor was constructed above the existing offices to accommodate:
- Canteen area
- Breakout space
- Directors’ offices & Boardroom
The finished building reflects the expertise of Klick’s design and installation teams and has resulted in a facility which is the pride of everyone involved. It has not only doubled the manufacturing capacity but resulted in an agile workplace that ideally suits Biofortuna’s requirements.
Feedback from Dr Nick Ash, Biofortuna’s CEO:
“Biofortuna now have a cutting edge manufacturing and laboratory facility with state of the art functionality which suits our needs perfectly. There is flexible workspace where our laboratory and technical teams can work collaboratively, which will be brilliant for us. The quality of the whole facility is absolutely top notch.”
