House Lessans, a sophisticated rural home in Northern Ireland built using the most basic of materials and, Secular Retreat, an enigmatic and sculptural home on a remote Devon hilltop – are the fifth and sixth homes to be shortlisted for RIBA House of the Year 2019.
The shortlisted homes were revealed in the third episode of a special four-part Channel 4 TV series – Grand Designs: House of the Year – broadcast on Wednesday 6 November. The full shortlist of seven homes will be revealed throughout the series, with the winner announced in the final episode, to be broadcast on Wednesday 13 November.
The shortlist for the 2019 RIBA House of the Year is:

- A Restorative Rural Retreat for Sartfell by Foster Lomas
- Black House by Dualchas Architects
- House Lessans by McGonigle McGrath
- Secular Retreat by Atelier Peter Zumthor with Mole Architects
