Alongside Optigruns popular CPDs ‘Green Roofs in Practice and ‘Understanding Blue Roofs’ we are pleased to now offer: ‘Achieving a Biosolar Specification.’
There are many advantages to the combination of green roofs and photovoltaics, often referred to as biosolar roofs. The evaporative cooling effect of the vegetation leads to an increase in the efficiency of the photovoltaic system. At the same time, the green roof makes an important contribution to preserving the natural water balance and increasing biodiversity. The varying amounts of sunlight and water in front of, underneath and between the modules provide a varied habitat for different plant and animal species.
With the pursuit of carbon neutrality and changes in building legislation photovoltaic (PV) systems are now used extensively to achieve energy efficiency targets particularly in the new build sector. Multifunctionality is the new goal of urban planning, and the combination of a green roof and PV system forms a particularly efficient proposition in this respect.
The positive effect on biodiversity, the increase in the efficiency of the PV system evaporative cooling and the possible structural and practical advantages of a support system secured with a superimposed load require a multi-functional and flexible solution.
This RIBA approved CPD seminar discusses topics such as:
- What is Biosolar?
- How does it work
- Environmental and ecological benefits
- The importance of the planning process
- Fire safety and maintenance requirements
