Exclusively available from Parkside Architectural Tiles and on show at the Parkside Tile Studio in Clerkenwell, Ethical Stone Manchester Brick Terrazzo uses reclaimed and locally sourced Manchester red brick to bring a very special terrazzo tile. By reusing brick from buildings designated for demolition or upgrade, Manchester Brick Terrazzo continues the story and character of old materials and locks in CO2, bringing a circular material that also continues an 80-year history of terrazzo manufacturing in the city.
Just like the rest of the Ethical Stone Terrazzo collection, Manchester Brick is made using a low carbon alternative to traditional Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC). By utilising a by-product of the steel industry, this alternative reduces reliance on OPC by up to 50% and saves up to 450kg of CO2 per tonne used. It’s a ground-breaking low carbon technology that helps to further lower Ethical Stone’s footprint.
As it’s made in Britain, within a 200-mile radius of 90% of the UK market, Ethical Stone Terrazzo also has a significantly lower transportation footprint than European sourced products with delivery into London using as much as 76% less CO2. For any project looking to use real terrazzo finishes but concerned about the impact of the material, Manchester Brick makes significant strides in lowering CO2 footprint in production and delivery.
Manchester brick is not the only reclaimed material that can be used. The production techniques used for Ethical Stone Terrazzo can also accommodate glass, metals, concrete, stone and even timber, making a hardwearing and durable finish that finds new life for unwanted materials that might otherwise have gone to waste.
The Ethical Stone Terrazzo collection from Parkside comes in a range of standard finishes including Isle of Skye White and Devon Pink with Recycled Blue and Green Glass, Devon Pink, Welsh Slate, Isle of Sky White Marble, Manchester Brick, Burlington Slate, Antrim Basalt and Portland Stone Limestone. With up to 85% recycled content, selected finishes are also available with 40 for 40, supporting natural habitats in partnership with the World Land Trust. A range of standard sizes and thicknesses are available in honed (36+ PTV), diamond brushed (36+ PTV) and polished finishes.
