Toby Marlow, Building and Construction team Director, discusses Haddonstone’s work with housebuilders.
How would you describe the culture at Haddonstone as a manufacturer of cast stone products?
Haddonstone is a family run business where the project team combines industry knowledge of more than 100 years, and a commitment to excellence. We are founding members of the UK Cast Stone Association and take pride in attaining the highest technical standards.
What distinguishes the Haddonstone range from others?
The Haddonstone portfolio is unique amongst manufacturers of cast stone, as it encompasses a wide selection of traditional, classical and contemporary designs to suit virtually any setting, and therefore all types of commercial as well as residential development. To ensure quality, we produce all our own moulds which are formed by fully trained craftsmen in an extensive workshop, which facilitates the fulfilment of bespoke orders. This extends to a colour and material-matching service which ensures customers’ exact specifications can be achieved.
What sort of service can customers expect from Haddonstone?
The sales team prides itself on being helpful and proactive, offering honest advice backed up by accurate quotations and lead times.
Project or site-specific orders are allocated to dedicated project managers, which guarantees that production scheduling and deliveries receive expert oversight.
CAD drawings can be supplied at no extra charge and the final delivery is typically handled by our own transport fleet. We also have strong relationships with independent installation experts, available to ensure the final outcome matches all expectations.
How is restoration and refurbishment work handled?
Where existing stonework has suffered damage and requires replacement, the latest 3D imagery, together with traditional survey techniques like manual reliefs for intricate detailing, can be used to create exact replicas.
In doing so, the team draws on their extensive experience and understanding of architectural styles such as Georgian, Victorian and other eras, to satisfy all aesthetic requirements.
How does Haddonstone embrace environmental issues?
Ours is one of the few companies in the industry to use over 50% of high-grade limestone in our mixes. This means our products are one of the highest quality cast stone options on the market today. Plus, we source all of our aggregate from an ethically-responsible supplier, which prides itself on its strong environmental management system.
Amongst the many awards earned by the company for stand-out projects over the years, we are especially proud of the recognition for Coworth Park and the Grade II listed Scarborough Spa, both of which received Green Apple Environment Awards.
Waste reduction and recycling are targeted throughout the company’s operations where, for example, some 50 tonnes of wood scrap is recovered annually, and used to heat the factory, by crushing moulds once production runs have been completed.
Overall, we are committed to continued investment in R&D and improvement to our processes, to keep us at the forefront of delivering optimum product solutions.
How long will cast stone products last?
At Haddonstone, our aim is to guarantee that our products’ quality exceeds that of any other cast stone manufacturer. It is founded on a culture of excellence and rigorously applied Quality Assurance procedures.
These comprise regular testing of both materials and the finished items to check parameters like water absorption rates, compressive strength and pull-out strength. This is backed up by independent testing that ensures we meet and exceed industry standards as well as the data published in our technical guides.
