UK cast stone specialist, Haddonstone, has designed and manufactured a variety of architectural components for a stunning new private residence in Sunningdale, Berkshire.
Working closely with the client to oversee the design and production of all architectural cast stonework, Haddonstone’s skilled craftspeople handcrafted each component at the Northamptonshire factory. Employing both traditional and modern techniques to ensure the highest quality cast stone, the range included a bespoke portico with smooth, square columns, window dressings such as surrounds, bay window cills, and hood moulds, wall dressings like copings and surface-fixed string courses, entranceway cast stonework featuring gate piers and pier caps.
Callum Jensen, Haddonstone’s Business Development Manager, explained,
“We made the stonework using both our TecStone (wet-cast limestone) and TecLite (Glass Fibre Reinforced Concrete) materials. The client selected our classic Portland colour for the stone elements, which was then painted in brilliant white to match the property, and we also provided landscaping elements comprising of copings and a classical temple.”
Haddonstone’s TecStone is manufactured using a wet-cast production process. A dense material, it is made from large limestone particles and is hand-finished to ensure a high-quality result. The surface of TecStone is smooth and sealed, making it the ideal choice for larger architectural products and contemporary designs where clients prefer a surface that doesn’t weather quickly. Additionally, TecStone is relatively easy to clean.
TecLite is an innovative cement-based material that incorporates alkali-resistant glass fibre (Glass Fibre Reinforced Concrete). Although it has a similar appearance to cast stone, TecLite is a lighter product, approximately two-thirds the weight of TecStone pieces, yet is still capable of achieving the same level of precise detailing typically associated with Haddonstone designs. TecLite is both durable and lightweight.
When it came to handing over the cast stone elements for fitting, Sean Pearse, founder of Surrey Stone Solutions Ltd, stepped in. With over 75 years of combined experience in stone management, fitting and cleaning, the team at Surrey Stone boasts an esteemed client base and so were the obvious choice for this prestigious residence. The company has worked regularly with Haddonstone for over 10 years.
