Whilst we all navigate through the next few weeks and months, at Farrells we are committed to using this time effectively and communicating on subject matters that relate to our industry. Providing a mix of thought leadership and news from the practice, we’ll be distributing regular news as much as possible.
Firstly, we wanted to update on some positive news from the practice!
We were recently appointed to deliver Wakefield’s ambitious city centre masterplan. Creating a Vision and Masterplan for the City Centre, together with Urban Design and Placemaking Guidance and a Delivery Strategy, we’ll be leading a team of excellent consultants, including Aspinall Verdi, FutureCity, PJA and UK Networks. Our recent masterplanning work in Sutton, Bolton and Manchester Northern Gateway, places us perfectly to lead this opportunity in Wakefield.
Katerina Karaga, an Associate leading on the project comments: “This is an excellent opportunity to revitalise the heart of Wakefield and the retail core of the city. Essential to this is creating a dynamic and flexible masterplan able to stand the test of time and adapt to market needs. Our experience in town centre regeneration and understanding of cultural heritage allows us to embrace this challenge”.
A key aspect of the new masterplan is to address issues of decline in the retail and business sectors within the city centre, and is in addition an opportunity to create a vibrant city centre, both fit for purpose and a hub for the creative and cultural industries. Set to complement and strengthen links with the retail core and historic heart of the city and contribute to the city’s wider regeneration ambitions, the new masterplan will promote the city as a key destination to invest, create, live, work and experience.
