Designer Contracts, the UK’s largest flooring contractor, has announced six new Summer starters and promotions.
Mathew Gregory, Matt Miles, Georgina Lee, Mark Johnston, Stephen Miles and Bradley Stone have all joined the company or been promoted within it to strengthen its project management and sales teams.
Mathew Gregory joined the company as a sub-contractor fitter in early 2023 and has been promoted to project manager for the central region.
After working in mental health and learning difficulty settings for some 20 years (while also doing landscaping projects), Mathew moved into flooring via retail and ran his own business. When not working he enjoys football, golf, running and cycling. Mathew recently ran the London Marathon and enjoys spending time on his motorbike.
Taking on the role of project manager at the Yorkshire regional office is Matt Miles who began his career in flooring as an apprentice fitter after working in sales, business and recruitment services. Said Miles:
“I was able to pass my apprenticeship in 18 months and have since worked across schools, hospitals, apartment blocks, hotels, new builds, care homes, renovations, office blocks and charity premises, fitting all aspects of flooring.”
An active sportsperson who enjoys football and regularly goes hiking, Miles played basketball up to the age of 21 and was a six-times national champion with Manchester Magic.
Car-mad Georgina Lee, who first joined Designer Contracts in 2018, has been promoted to sales consultant at the company’s South Midlands office. Roles across the business have included working as a customer service administrator, customer service coordinator, junior internal trainer and customer service manager.
She said:
“In my personal space, I spend time with my family, usually doing something car-related! My partner and I jointly own eight cars, a couple of project cars, a drift car and an RS6.”
After extensive experience in the flooring sector, Mark Johnston has joined the company a sales consultant for the North East. Mark started out as an apprentice carpet fitter at 16, going on to work for independent, high-end retailers over many years. He then moved into sales and later opened his own retail business which he ran for 10 years. Said Mark:
“As times changed and the town became saturated by more shops and a lack of good fitters, the decision was made to step aside and the opportunity to work with Designer Contracts came along.”
When he is not at work Mark keeps busy with family commitments, notably taking his three sons to kickbox training three nights a week and one of his daughters to dance lessons and competitions. He also has two young granddaughters and another grandchild on the way.
Stephen Miles has been appointed project manager for the Western Counties after working as a self-employed fitter for 25 years. He has worked extensively across the new homes sector in various flooring roles including as a workshop manager for seven years with AEL solutions.
Stephen also enjoys going to watch football, attending live music concerts and festivals and spending time with his family.
Over in East Anglia, Bradley Stone has been appointed as sales manager after 20 years in the flooring industry. His experience includes retail, wholesale, floor fitting and running his own local flooring shop, supplying and installing LVTs, carpets and vinyl.
Said Bradley:
“Having a wife and four daughters doesn’t leave me with loads of free time, however I do coach my daughters U12 football team (we’ve just returned from our first international tournament in Holland). I also have an obsession for carp fishing and enjoy a round of golf and classic cars like my pride and joy Ford Capri.”
Designer Contracts md Peter Kelsey added:
“We’re delighted to welcome all our new joins on board as well as see Mathew and Georgina take another step up the ladder. We’re a company with extensive opportunities for the right people who share our passion for building strong customer relationships and service driven solutions across the flooring sector.”
