As the current holder of the G-Awards Installer of the Year title, commercial specialist The Window Company (Contracts) is embracing the opportunity which that presents to set the very highest standards for all those operating in the window and door sector.
Key to that is its approach to corporate social responsibility and, as a result, it has become involved in several new initiatives designed to provide employment and training opportunities for young people.
First amongst these is the appointment of two ex-service personnel into full time roles at The Window Company (Contracts). Recruited through the MoD and Right Management’s Career Transition Partnership (CTP), both have recently left the army. One will be prepping the windows and doors ready for delivery to site, while the other will be out on site working with the company’s fitting teams.
They will of course benefit from personalised training programmes designed to help them acquire the practical skills and professional qualifications which will enable them to establish long and successful careers with the business.
In addition, the company has also been supporting the Basworx Training scheme over recent months working in partnership with Morgan Sindall and Basildon Council, for whom it has held the window replacement contract since 2017.
As well as providing a variety of work placements, it is also recruiting and training an additional window fitter from the programme who will join the company full time.
Company Chairman David Thornton said:
“This isn’t just about being seen to do the right thing – it’s about identifying people with talent and potential who we think can succeed within our team. In an industry facing a very real skills shortage, this is an important part of our strategy in addressing that.”
