Career development on target for next generation of Green Building Solutions experts

As major construction and planning continues to reopen across Europe, the spotlight is turning again towards developing new and innovative sustainable building solutions.

For architecture and construction graduates or young professionals, the shift towards green solutions is an opportunity to be changemakers and further their career development.

The renowned international summer university programme Green.Building.Solutions. (GBS) enables built-environment students and professionals to acquire in-depth expertise in sustainable planning and construction techniques, within an intensive 3 week format.

The programme – run by the Austrian OeAD student housing in Vienna – is delivered entirely in English and will take place online from July 17 to August 8, 2021.

Günther Jedliczka, CEO of OeAD student housing, said: “As we emerge from the life-changing experience of the pandemic, the importance of respecting our planet and developing new ways of working have never been more clearly in focus.

“Young people at the start of their construction and architecture careers have the opportunity to differentiate themselves with a unique professional development pathway – learning new and innovative solutions towards sustainability.”

Now in its 11th year, GBS deals with the ecological, economic, technical and social aspects of sustainable planning and construction, transferring Austria’s first-hand ecological knowledge and engineering expertise to an international audience.

Participants broaden their knowledge in the fields of passive house technology and energy efficiency. Moreover, they get to work closely together with experts in live online sessions.

Added Günther Jedlicza: “Last year’s digital format was extremely well-received by nearly 30 students around the world, they worked together over 9 time zones, forged valuable professional relationships and developed excellent new skills.

“Participants become the ‘next generation’ of green building specialists – and also act as ambassadors in their home country, applying and promoting the knowledge they have gained locally.”

OeAD student housing – part of Austria’s national agency for international mobility and cooperation in education, science and research – operates GBS under a not-for-profit arrangement.
