Carbon neutral open space management

With the construction industry under increasing pressure to commit to fighting climate change, Meadfleet are delighted to announce carbon neutral status.

The open space management services Meadfleet provide to housebuilders across the UK:

  • Are carefully designed to promote sustainability
  • Minimise any harmful impact on the environment
  • Support companies which are working towards carbon neutral status or have already achieved it

Paul Cassidy, Meadfleet’s Ecology and Conservation Manager says:

“As part of our long-term commitment to fight climate change, we are a signatory of the United Nations (UN) Climate Neutral Now initiative, which was launched in 2015 to increase climate action. As a signatory, we have pledged to measure, reduce and offset our carbon emissions every year. Using the UN Greenhouse Gas Calculator, we’ve calculated our annual carbon emissions and have chosen to offset them with carbon credits from Ripple Africa, a UK charity with a UN verified offsetting scheme in Malawi.

“Not only is the scheme officially verified by the UN, it appealed to us because of the significant benefits it offers to local communities. The Ripple Africa team provide safe, fuel-efficient stoves to locals. This reduces the need for local timber and allows children who would ordinarily harvest the timber to access an education. We’ve also signed up to Ripple Africa’s tree planting scheme which protects Malawi’s indigenous trees and creates a sustainable supply of timber for future generations.”

In addition to offsetting current emissions, Meadfleet have chosen to go one step further by obtaining carbon offsetting credits for historical carbon emissions, equivalent to more than it’s estimated total emissions for the past 25 years – since Meadfleet first began operations.

Meadfleet are fully committed to reducing the impact Meadfleet has on the planet for years to come, by reducing emissions, protecting trees and plants and promoting sustainability wherever possible.
