Three Site Managers from CALA Homes across Scotland have achieved a Highly Commended status at the industry’s top health and safety awards, following their commendations earlier this year.
The trio were awarded the prestigious commendation in recognition of their commitment to health and safety standards at the NHBC Health and Safety Awards.
Over 450 sites were entered with only 27 site managers recognised with this accolade across the UK at the ceremony at the ICC in Birmingham on 6 July 2018.
Winners for CALA Homes in Scotland were site manager Billy McCallum for his work at Kinnaird Oaks, Larbert, Project Manager Stuart Dallas for Riverside at Bothwell and Project Manager, Colin Thain for his work at Gullane Fire College. They each welcomed a number of rigorous inspection visits from the NHBC health and safety advisors over a four month period.
The CALA team are no strangers to this award, Stuart Dallas received this national award in 2016 and was a National Runner Up (large builder) in 2017.
Stuart said:
“Achieving another Highly Commended award is a great accomplishment for myself and the team, our ongoing success in this category is testament to our commitment to ensure we create a safe working environment. We had a brilliant night and cannot thank NHBC enough.”
Colin Thain, who has also previously been recognised in the awards, manages the Gullane Fire College development. He was thrilled to pick up this award, he said:
“I was incredibly pleased to be nominated again this year, it’s always a great surprise and with all of us taking the Highly Commended award home, it was even better.
“CALA is synonymous with high quality and this starts at the grass roots of the site, it is a real achievement for the whole team who continually strive to be the best in the business.”
Billy McCallum is delighted to receive this award for the first time, he added:
“As this is my first year as a site manager, achieving a commendation in the first round was really encouraging but having won the prestigious Highly Commended award, I am truly honoured. I am delighted that the efforts from all the team at Kinnaird Oaks have resulted in it being one of the top sites in the UK for health and safety.”
Organised by NHBC, the UK’s leading new home warranty insurance provider, the Health and Safety Award is one of the most highly regarded accolades in the house building industry, dedicated to recognising site managers and their construction teams who achieve the highest health and safety standards in housebuilding. Now in its 9th year, this is the ultimate competition for house builders with high health and safety standards.
