Work is due to begin shortly on a new 100-bed specialist dementia care home in Harrogate after Caddick Construction was awarded the £10.8m build contract by Vida Healthcare Limited
Groundworks for Vida Court, adjacent to Beckwith Head Road, are scheduled to commence early January with Caddick also responsible for providing all external works and Vida Healthcare’s group offices on the 3.5 acre site.
Harrogate-based Vida Healthcare specialises in dementia care and already has two purpose-built care homes in the town – Vida Hall in Starbeck and Vida Grange in Pannal. The Group offers its residents state-of-the-art facilities in a “home from home” environment, as well as additional provision for respite and day care guests.
Caddick Senior Contracts Manager Chris Allott said: “This is a very exciting project for Caddick to be involved in, helping to provide much-needed facilities for families who want to provide the best possible care for relatives with living with dementia. A 100-bed 24-hour care home will undoubtedly help local provision as well as provide more employment in the area.”
Vida Healthcare Managing Director James Rycroft added: “We are delighted to be working with Caddick Construction on Vida Court. The building is unique in its design and Caddick has been robust and thorough in its approach to the first stages of the development. We look forward to January when building work begins in full force!”
Work on Vida Court is anticipated to take approximately 18 months.
Architects for the project are Leeds-based Den Architecture with principal design services and quantity surveying provided by Projex Building Solutions, also based in Leeds.
Currently 1 in 4 NHS beds are taking up by patients living with dementia over the age of 65. In England and Wales, the number of dementia sufferers who need palliative care are forecast to almost quadruple by 2040.
