Nestled between steep Devon hills is Redhill Barn, an award-winning barn conversion that is quietly pushing the boundaries of timber frame engineering.
Sarah and Tom, architects from London based practice Type Studio, undertook the conversion. The large existing barn was roofless and ruined, Type’s brief was to restore the building’s character and retain the simplicity of the once functional building, adapting it for modern living. Their choice of materials for the frame were planed and kiln dried UK grown Douglas fir with black steel plates and bolts.
