Renovation trends of 2021

After a year of doing almost nothing but staying at home in 2020, this year is all about making the most of lost time and being able to do the things we couldn’t last year. More of us are making improvements to our homes, and whether you’re looking for inspiration to develop your house for yourself or to get it ready to sell and move elsewhere, this article is for you!

  1. New bathrooms

Bathrooms have transformed and are no longer simply a necessity, but have developed into the perfect space for a home spa that we can retreat to for some pampering and relaxation when we need it most. Homeowners are renovating bathrooms to make them more spacious, and having both a shower and a bath separate is also becoming the norm opposed to a shower over the bath.

Big tiling on the walls and floors make the space look even more open, along with a large Hollywood mirror with backlights to add another level of sophistication and flair. Add in a leafy houseplant to provide a pop of colour, and you’ve developed a dream bathroom!

  1. Merging indoors and outdoors

After having to spend so much time inside, a lot of us are keen to spend as much time as possible outside and enjoy it. With this, a lot of homeowners are opting towards blending the lines between the two in their houses to enjoy the benefits of both aspects.

Think full sliding doors opening onto a patio in front of a garden, providing a seating area for friends and family to enjoy time together, as well as outdoor heaters and fireplaces to add an extra feature to keep the chills off when the evenings kick in.

  1. All about that space

A lot of us have experienced feeling trapped, so being able to combat that with big, open spaces in the home help to avoid that feeling. This applies to every room in the house, but especially in the bathroom and kitchen.

We’ve covered the trends in bathrooms, but kitchens are also having their time to really jump out and be the centre of attention. Especially if you’re asking yourself “what home improvements should I make to help sell my house fast?”, starting in the kitchen is a great option. Dining space is more important than ever for potential buyers, as well as islands to provide extra space and storage.

  1. Big windows

Another trend inspired from us being at home for so long is the introduction of large windows in each room of the house, letting in huge amounts of natural light and making any room look more spacious – a perfect combo!

This is especially popular in more rural areas that benefit from stunning views, letting homeowners enjoy the scenery and feel more at one with the outside world while still being in their homes.

  1. Advanced technology

We see this trend constantly, but each time it gets more impressive than the last. Technology is always developing and bringing us new things, and the new options for our homes make our lives even easier.

From the introduction of the Roomba into so many homes to voice-controlled lights and electronics, our houses are getting smarter each day. We’re even seeing keyless locks now, bringing home security to new heights and providing an extra level of protection.

  1. Outside areas

Gardens have become an incredibly valuable asset to any home, with more buyers seeing outside space as a necessity. With that, outdoor areas are getting a huge refresh and being updated to make them the best they can be.

In more lavish gardens, there are outdoor cinemas popping up, as well as firepits and patio areas with barbeque set ups, giving you all of the luxury you could desire in the comfort of your home! More low-ley improvements include new fencing, vegetable patches and flowerbeds, which with some love make for a gorgeous garden.

  1. Home workspace

This time last year, a lot of us were beginning to work from home for the first time, laptop on knees on the sofa and expecting a few weeks before heading back into the office. Now, millions of people are still working from home and expecting to for the foreseeable, which is bringing in demand for proper office space.

Some homes are converting unused rooms into an office, but some are extending to build a room designed to work in, perfect for those who are planning to be staying at home permanently. Space for a home office is incredibly desirable and will be for a long time now, with a lot of businesses deciding to keep their staff working from home. Picture lots of space to keep things organised, windows for natural light, and most importantly, some chic décor to give your zoom calls a background to be envied!

These renovation trends are absolutely stunning and transform a house into a home, giving us exactly the vibes that we’re looking for this year!
