There are a few simple ways that one can follow to reduce the energy cost of their home. If you want to save energy in your home, you can go for some little things only; the first place is looking into your own home and finds out where you are wasting energy.

First set the temperature

First, you need to set the temperature of your hot water. Most of the hot water heater comes with the thermostat. You can set the thermostat to nearly 12o degrees. It will help you to save energy and will cut the monthly energy cost too.

Windows

The best way to save energy from your home is to install the new energy-efficient replacement windows. Replacement windows are well-sealed and also help you to maintain a comfortable indoor temperature. First, try to know the replacement glass for windows prices and then go for a simple replacement. There are different types of glass replacements; you can buy according to price. Even the replacement service charge is not that much higher than the energy bill you need to pay with the old windows.

Unplug all the unused appliances

Always unplug all unused appliances in your home, in your kitchen or room. Small home and kitchen appliances that are left plugged, even not in use can use huge electricity. These are the phantom appliances. Your microwave, your computer, induction cooktop, electric kettle even the DVD player needs to be switched off when not in use. Always turn off the television, radio, etc too.

Turn off the lights

The most forgotten but most important way to save energy is to turn off the lights when you leave your room. Even if you leave your room for three minutes, turn off the lights and switch off the fan.

Air conditioner temperature

Don’t run the AC when not needed. Go for frequent servicing of your air conditioning machine so that it will consume less energy. Always try to keep the temperature 24 to 26 degrees to maintain energy efficiency.

Properly insulated home

Make sure that your home is properly insulated. You can contact an insulation specialist to have a quick trip to the attic. A properly insulated home is a more energy-efficient option to choose from.
