£5.75 million academic building at the University of East Anglia

The project will create an additional 2,000 square metres of teaching space, breakout areas and conference facilities, helping the university meet crucial future growth requirements.

Multi-disciplinary consultancy Pick Everard was awarded full architectural design of the project through the Official Journal of the European Union (OJEU). The team have designed a flexible space in accordance with Passivhaus principles to harmonise with surrounding university blocks. The project is aiming for BREEAM Excellent accreditation.

Sustainable features include a TermoDeck concrete flooring system which uses the thermal storage capacity of the building’s structural mass to regulate internal temperatures for year-round comfort. Pick Everard will also use its 3D Revit modelling capabilities to provide a BIM model.

“The challenge for us, as designers, is working within the constraints of planning and the context of the University’s site masterplan,”

said Paul Darlow, assistant director at Pick Everard.

“We’re working closely with UEA to a top quality, inspirational teaching environment.”
