Emmaus Brighton & Hove Project

Founded in 1997, the Emmaus Brighton & Hove community provides a safe home, meaningful work, training and rehabilitation for 47 companions – the name we give our residents – all men and women over the age of 18.

The main building houses the accommodation for companions, each has their own bedroom and share dining and bathroom facilities. Operating from this main site are the businesses which provide the essential income needed to cover the everyday expenses.

The community is one of 24 in the UK and is part of the wider international movement – founded in France by Abbe Pierre in the late 1940s – whose ethos is for solidarity “to help others less fortunate than ourselves.”
