WSP has appointed a new head of retail to lead and develop its growing retail offering in the UK.
Simon Harden joins WSP from Waterman Group with over 30 years’ experience in civil and structural engineering. He will lead a cross discipline retail team of over 70 staff in the UK, from the company’s property and transport planning arms.
As PLC director at Waterman Group Simon was responsible for managing a number of major projects both in the UK and overseas, including the Bullring shopping centre in Birmingham (also a WSP project), mixed-use developments in Abu Dhabi and Kazakhstan, and residential developments in Russia. Simon also oversaw the international expansion of the company, building it up to 550 staff in 15 multi-disciplinary offices.
A chartered engineer with the Institute of Structural Engineers (ISTructE), Simon joins WSP’s building structures business.
Head of building structures, Kamran Moazami said:
“Our retail offering has gone from strength to strength in recent years, off the back of our solid reputation in structural design. Notable projects such as the Mall of Egypt and our ongoing relationship with retail greats such as Marks & Spencer and Primark has positioned us well, and we are now looking to expand this specialism both in the UK and internationally. Simon will help us capitalise on this stronghold and evolve the offering for our clients.”
WSP has extensive experience in the retail sector in the UK and internationally, with key projects including Marks & Spencer’s Learning Stores, Primark Princes Street, Trinity Leeds, Hanam Union Square South Korea , King Abdulla Financial District Saudi Arabia, and the Mall of Egypt, Cairo, which involved the first indoor real snow ski slope in Africa.
