Wimshurst Pelleriti makes clever use of an awkward site

Wimshurst Pelleriti is architect, developer and contractor for a small but shapely apartment block that makes the most of an awkward corner site in Hampton Wick, London. The recently completed building replaces two derelict shops with four individually designed one-bed units.

As developer, architect and contractor, Wimshurst Pelleriti was able to visualise in advance of purchasing the property how creative design could unlock the difficult site and release value. The architectural team used the awkward angles to create interesting interior living spaces, and a striking rear elevation with bespoke privacy screens is designed to maximise the privacy of the neighbours.

Director Will Wimshurst said:

“There were several unique problems to overcome, which lead us to the site in the first place. The development has sold very well, which in our view proves the appeal of architect designed spaces, and our belief that architects add most value where the design challenges are greatest. Pocket Living was an innovator in this space, creating liveable homes on very small and often difficult sites. There remain huge opportunities to develop these micro sites into delightful properties for singles and couples, and as an imaginative architect-developer we are able to hunt them down and realise them”.

The building is clad in brick with timber rain-screening and steel balustrading. It sits comfortably within the local context, adjacent to a Conservation Area, making use of a brownfield site that had sat empty for a number of years.

Wimshurst Pelleriti has a broad portfolio of office, residential, education and leisure projects, ranging from an award-winning boathouse in Devon to an offsite micro-living sustainable prototype home for RHP, as well as a new metro station in Italy.
