UBM, the world’s leading organiser of furniture and interiors trade events including May Design Series, is celebrating a string of successful autumn events held across the globe as Furniture China, Decorex International, Index Fairs India and Sleep all exceeded expectations in 2014.
Furniture China closed its doors on 14 September following a hugely successful edition of the event, attracting 98,401 visitors (a 15.34% increase year-on-year) including 22% attendees from overseas.
An impressive 2,685 of the most influential Chinese furniture exhibitors displayed their latest products at the Shanghai exhibition. Many exhibitors, which included over 300 companies from overseas, remarked that visitor flow was superb with many quality buyers in attendance.
Daryl Bayliss , Managing Director of Bayliss Rugs, said:
“Bayliss had excellent results at Furniture China and we are very excited about exhibiting again in 2015. The fair is the perfect platform for developing businesses to build long term relationships. Bayliss has achieved significant on-site sales, and have grown our customer database considerably.”
Leading luxury design event Decorex International, which this year relocated to its former home at Syon Park, was held from 21-24 September and attracted an impressive 12,500 people to the historic location in west London. The event welcomed over 400 exhibitors, a third of which were new to the growing event, and was the biggest Decorex yet in terms of square metres.
“We were delighted to be part of such a vibrant and successful event”, said Martin Betts of Josephine Home, who exhibited at the show. “The buzz and excitement was palpable and it was evident that both exhibitors and visitors enjoyed the event immensely.”
Index Fairs India was held from 9-12 October at the MMRDA Exhibition Centre, Mumbai. The four day event saw 25,000 trade buyers from across the retail and contract communities visit exhibitors showcasing interior products including furniture, lighting, kitchen and bathroom, flooring and office fittings.
Darshan Meha of Orange Tree, which exhibited, said:
“This was our first time at Index and the experience has been wonderful. We have met a good mix of architects and designers, and have had many fruitful meetings and been overwhelmed with the response to our ranges. It was a great decision to exhibit at Index.”
Rounding up UBM’s international portfolio of autumn events was Sleep, the UK’s leading hotel design event, which took place at the Business Design Centre from 26-27 November. Sleep attracted 4000 visitors across two days thanks to its 150 industry leading exhibitors, including lead sponsor Grohe, and features such as the Sleep Set concept rooms, and the ever-popular Sleep Conference which had standing room only for the majority of seminars.
Jonathan Hinton, Managing Director of exhibitor Ultrafabrics Europe said:
“The response to showing at Sleep was amazing- we were getting calls the following day! As an international company, the level of strong interest and enquiries from outside of the UK was also very pleasing. We will certainly be returning in 2015”.
With an international repertoire of expertly organised interiors events as part of UBM’s global portfolio, the team behind May Design Series plan to draw upon these resources to deliver the first full-scale edition of the event next year.
Suzie Ager, Brand Director for May Design Series commented:
“I am proud of our domestic and international colleagues for delivering such hugely successful events. It is invaluable to have the weight of UBM’s prowess behind May Design Series, and the vast network of global contacts our colleagues around the world provide, and we intend to draw upon this to deliver a commercially focused and truly international show in 2015.”
May Design Series will take place from 17-19 May 2015 at ExCeL London. The 2015 event will be the first full-scale outing of the UK’s definitive international interiors event. To register your interest, go to www.maydesignseries.com.
