Planning consultancy Turley Associates has secured prior approval for what is believed the first office to residential conversion under the new General Permitted Development Order introduced in May this year.
Planning permission was granted on 30 July by St. Helens Council to allow developer BPS Developments to convert a redundant office building, Rexmore House, in St. Helens into 21 one bed and nine two bedroom apartments.
Peter Rowe, a senior planner in the Manchester office of Turley Associates said:
“We understand that whilst our application was not the first to be submitted under the General Permitted Development Order, we do believe it is the first to receive the green light.
“The promptness of the decision demonstrates that the new permitted development regime can work well and will contribute towards the Government’s objective to promote growth and significantly boost the supply of housing.”
Work to Rexmore House is expected to begin immediately.
