TREMCO systems a hit for old record factory car park

The redevelopment of a famous record factory to the west of London has included the construction of a visually striking multi-storey car park, where two high performance waterproofing and wearing course systems produced by tremco illbruck have been used to complete a rapid build methodology.

The history of the Old Vinyl Factory at Hayes, Middlesex, is vividly portrayed in the punched metal screens that clad the seven storey car park structure portraying screaming teenage fans at a Beatles concert in the sixties. Huber Car Park Systems, the main contractor, specified the use of TREMCO CP polyurethane system to waterproof the roof deck, as well as TREMCO MMA for the internal floors.

Mike Thelwell Limited, a highly experienced industrial flooring and waterproofing contractor, as well as a regular customer of tremco illbruck, laid a total of 8,800m² of TREMCO MMA, with a further 1,600m² of TREMCO CP Urethane consumed in protecting the exposed upper deck. Huber’s fast track approach to car park development normally takes six to nine months, with all of the seven levels on the former EMI factory site being constructed of concrete decks cast on permanent steel formwork.

Huber Car Park Systems began working in the UK a decade ago and has delivered seven more car park projects in the UK since completing the Old Vinyl Factory last year, while there are another five contracts currently under construction. Referring to the specification of TREMCO systems, Huber’s Tomer Meirom said:

“We began using TREMCO products back in 2012, and have never experienced any problems with the waterproofing performance. It is a good system overall, with a strong base and very positive properties.”

Greg Moffatt of Mike Thelwell Limited, commented:

“The contract at the Old Vinyl Factory for Huber Car Park Systems went very well, and the end job looks smart with the traffic areas in grey and the parking bays in a contrasting blue. We also did all of the line marking with white for the general bays and yellow for disabled bays as well as pedestrian routes.

“Following the specification of the MMA and CP systems by Huber, we were successful in tendering for the work and have received very positive feedback on the car park. We use a lot of TREMCO MMA material over the course of a year, with the key advantage being the rapid cure: the first coat is ready for re-application after 30 minutes, while the whole surface can be trafficked in just two hours.”

While Mike Thelwell Limited is often called upon to complete the top deck to car parks with TREMCO MMA’s own waterproofing solution, TREMCO CP Urethane System is considered an ideal option for many situations, with TREMCO CP350 representing a next generation, self-levelling and rapid curing polyurethane waterproofing membrane. It is then overcoated with a suitable sealer such as TREMCO CP951.

As an internationally renowned manufacturer of construction product solutions, tremco illbruck offers a comprehensive specification and technical service including site support for moisture testing, and toolbox talks to help train staff in the correct installation techniques.
