The ideal show for you

The Ideal Home Show is back at Olympia for Spring 2018. From kitchens and bathrooms to bedrooms and basements; fixtures and fittings to fine food, gardens and the latest in home renovation, fashion, beauty and gifts, you’ll find it all under one roof at this award-winning show. So step into a world of ideas and inspiration from 17 March – 2 April 2018, as the Ideal Home Show celebrates its 110th anniversary.

Highlights include:

The Show Village, which incorporates the legendary show homes and gardens. For 2018 these are focused around a spectacular open-water lake, which brings harmony and calm to the homes. A walkway across the water allows visitors to view the homes from every angle.

The Super Theatre is styled to blend in with a waterside theme, bringing excitement and action to the heart of the show and set against a backdrop of contemporary living. At the theatre will be gardening experts, upcycling chat, future trends, information about buying and getting your foot on the property ladder, creating a calming space to live, home renovation, outdoor rooms and much more.

The Transformation House is a typical Victorian home reimagined for contemporary living. A huge cantilevered extension takes the living space out over open water and incorporates a stunning water feature. The trickling water brings harmony and peace to a busy urban location, and the house layout has been reversed to place the living area on the top floor, promoting an airy feeling with far-reaching views and creating a sheltered area for outdoor relaxation below.

The Beach House is the winning design from a competition run by Waveney District Council in conjunction with English designer Wayne Hemingway MBE. It’s an innovative beach hut for Lowestoft that is able to provide overnight accommodation and serve as a holiday home, yards from the beach. The main hut-shaped living space is elevated to the first floor level. Here it can be accessed directly from the path behind, providing greater privacy form the promenade and stunning views from the large glazed gable end. This element sits on top of a continuous palisade, which contains the main bedroom and bathroom at ground level. This is painted in colourful vertical stripes to reference windbreaks and other beach paraphernalia. On top of the palisade, a sun terrace is provided where visitors can enjoy private outdoor space with views to the sea.

The Waterside Garden Pods are two garden pods, cited in the waterside gardens, but equally at home in any suburban back garden. These pioneering designs totally re-invent the concept of ‘garden rooms’. There are options for a workspace, a relaxing retreat and a micro-home for guests. A world away from the standard square shed-style options, the pods feature contemporary shapes, green roofs, foldout decks, along with ideas adapted from the Tiny Homes movement.

Other highlights at the show include:

  • Good Homes Magazine room sets will form the main entrance to the show, displaying inspirational design as they showcase various rooms of the home.
  • Health and Wellness Stage is a new area for the show where visitors can learn what to eat, how to stay fit, and gain access to expert advice from leaders in the industry.

In addition, the Ideal Home Show will feature a Renovation Advice Hub, where free expert advice will be available from the best in the industry: interior designers, architects, KBSA garden designers and landscapers. The service can be pre-booked online prior to the event, and is free of charge.

There are also ‘How-to’ craft workshops to further your skills around the home, and Ideal Show Gardens for inspiration on how to make your garden anything from a relaxing haven to an adaptable space for entertaining.

Nevertheless, if you fancy a break from homes and gardens there’s always the relaxing environment of the Pamper Lounge, or the Ideal Champagne Bar and the Beer Garden. Why not try an Ideal Home late as you listen to the music from our Bandstand, or check out the Royal Wedding Cake Competition. There is so much to see and do at the show.

Also returning for 2018 will be a stellar line-up of celebrity guests.
