Stride Treglown welcomes two awards at Sunday Times British Home Awards 2013

Stride Treglown was recognised as the Architect of the Year, at the Sunday Times British Home Awards 2013. In addition, “Restoration Man”, George Clarke also presented the national architects practice, ranked number 10 in the UK, with the trophy for Best Mixed Use Development, for Sixty8 Port Marine, Portishead.

In the Architect of the Year category, Stride Treglown fended off stiff competition from other nationally known architects such as; Rogers Stirk Harbour and Levitt Bernstein. Architectural critic at The Sunday Times, Hugh Pearman was surprised at the result where he wrote:

“Architect of the Year is a surprising one. Stride Treglown, based in Bristol, is a good regional outfit, if scarcely a famous name. Who cares, when they produce high-density schemes of the quality they have built in Portishead, near Bristol, and Gloucester?”

The Best Mixed Use development for Portishead was presented to Stride Treglown and its client, Crest Nicholson. The scheme provides sixty apartments, a terrace of eight town houses, and several retail units along the quayside.

Dominic Eaton, director of Stride Treglown who runs the residential team said:

“We had hoped we would win something, and I thought it would most likely be for our Crest Homes Projects in Portishead or Gloucester (which was also shortlisted) but to get Architect of the Year as well is just fantastic.”

Commenting on the accolade, Sandra Dixon, Sales and Marketing Director at Crest Nicholson South West, said:

“We’re thrilled to have received such a highly sought-after award for our homes at Port Marine, a stunning development that combines stylish city living with a relaxed marina lifestyle. The retail side of the scheme offers bars and restaurants on the doorstep of residents, and the mix of housing and apartments available means that the development is a great fit for every type of homebuyer.

“The British Home Awards set an incredibly high standard for design and innovative excellence in the construction industry, and winning the Best Mixed-Use Development is a testament to the quality of our homes at Port Marine which have quickly become one of the area’s most sought after addresses.”
