School sensory garden blossoms thanks to Redrow

Chesire school children are able to enjoy a brand new sensory garden after Redrow stepped in to help them cultivate all their hard work.

Greenbank School, on Greenbank Lane, which caters for children with ASD and other special educational needs, had started to sow the seeds for a new garden that the pupils could make use of all-year round, but had run out of funds and materials to finish it.

When Redrow invited local community groups and schools to apply for money as part of its Hartford community initiative earlier in the year, pupils from the school wrote to the housebuilder to ask for help.

School business manager Liam Lewis said:

“Redrow’s appeal to local groups and schools came at a perfect time for us as we’d started the garden but hadn’t been able to stretch the funds to add in all the finishing touches. The young people and staff, in particular sixth form teaching assistant Maria Breau who has worked really hard on the project, came up with the idea of applying to Redrow to see if they could help.

“Redrow generously donated £925 to help us complete the garden and the young people have been enjoying it a great deal already. They’re particularly looking forward to next spring so they can see everything in bloom but it’s been designed so that even in the winter they can make good use of it.

“The young people will be able to use the space for a variety of outside activities as well as having a nice, relaxing spot to sit and read.”

Jason Newton, sales director for Redrow Homes (NW), added:

“Redrow loves to get involved in the communities in which it builds and we have been particularly active in Hartford, inviting local groups to apply for Redrow funding earlier in the year.

“We were extremely touched when we received handwritten letters from some of the school’s pupils, asking us to help. They mentioned they had done all the work so far themselves but were in desperate need of more money for materials, wind chimes and sun catchers. We were only too happy to help and the garden now looks amazing. We hope the pupils of Greenbank School have years and years of use from it.”

Redrow is building a wide range of homes at three developments in and around the village: Hartford Grange, Weaver Park and Hunter’s Chase.

Externally, the new Redrow homes give a nod to the past with many period-style architectural features. Internally they bright, modern features designed for ease of living. There are stylish, fully equipped open plan kitchens and dining rooms, en-suite bathrooms and utility rooms.
