Safe working at height with PERI’s RCS protection panels

PERI provides protection for 15-storey residential tower development

Space is at a premium at the City Gateway site in Southampton, a project developed by Bouygues Development and being built by its sister company Bouygues UK. The RC Frame contractor, MJ Gallagher, appointed PERI to pre-fabricate their Rail Climbing System protection panels for the project.

Southampton City Gateway is a mixed-use development, located on a prominent, but compact site on the outskirts of Southampton that will become one of the city’s most distinctive buildings. Completion is scheduled for summer 2014 and includes a 15-storey elliptical tower, which will house two adjoining six-storey wings, designed as student accommodation for the University of Southampton.

At City Gateway, PERI’s RCS P panels are being used to provide secure edge protection to site personnel over three levels. RCS P ensures the slab edges on upper storey floors are completely enclosed without any gaps, providing protection from adverse weather conditions and creating a safe working environment at height leading to increased work productivity.

Project Manager, Neil Jackson comments “Thanks to the safety of the system, progress on site has continued to be on schedule. We have managed to overcome the lack of space available on site as PERI has pre-fabricated the panels at their Rugby site; this has ensured that there has been no interruption to progress.

Managing Director of PERI, Alasdair Stables comments “The flexibility of the RCS P protection panel provides a safe environment for even the most unusual structures. For this project, we were able to offer our pre-fabrication service to save valuable time during construction, ensuring the project was delivered on budget and on time”.
