Renolit looks to the future and invests in young architects by supporting YAC – Young Architects Competition

Today, looking to the future means committing to a more sustainable world. A world that can conserve resources in favour of new generations and nurture the talent of the professionals who will be its protagonists. It is with this philosophy that RENOLIT, a globally-active specialist for high-quality films, sheets and other plastic products, leading in the roof and covering waterproofing sector, has chosen to be one of the main sponsors of YAC – Young Architects Competition. The competition is promoted by RENOLIT’s partner, the Manni Group, which has led the entire project. The challenge for those taking part in the competition will be to design a railway station in the Chinese city of Xi’an. The design must use innovative solutions, including RENOLIT membranes which can maximise the energy efficiency of buildings.

The company is actively involved and will offer a RENOLIT honourable mention, worth Eur 2,000, as one of the prizes. The award will be given to the best ideas in terms of energy savings while using cool roofs, those able to reduce the harmful effects of urban heat islands while maintaining maximum freedom in the architectural design of the roof.

Luca Gottardi – New Business Development Manager and Marketing Manager of the RENOLIT WATERPROOFING ROOFING division – explained participation in this project

“We chose to support this competition, in keeping with new global trends in the construction industry, to encourage development of innovative, efficient, added-value solutions for tomorrow’s world.”

Luca Gottardi is also part of the contest’s jury and will personally assess the most suitable projects to meet future environmental challenges.

Although quite contemporary, Xi’an retains an ancient charm. By 2023 the city will see further development of 17,000 square kilometres, as a nerve centre in relations between China and the Western world. The Xi’an Train Station will be set in this context and will be designed by the creativity of the young architects involved in YAC. The intervention is to take inspiration from the most widespread principles of energy sustainability. It must take advantage of expert technical solutions, eco-compatible design strategies and elegant integration of architectural and natural elements.

A high-profile event that RENOLIT is proud to take part in. A contest that is seeking new talented resources who, with their spirit of initiative, will help to trace the outline of change in modern construction.

Entry to the competition opened on September 23rd, 2019 and will close definitively on December 15th, with delivery of the papers scheduled for December 19th. The results of the winning projects will be published on 10th February 2020.
