Osmo UK’s Polyx®-Oil wood has provided a high quality protective finish to a stunning TV and hi-fi wood cabinet, proving that the finish is suitable for use on all internal wood furniture.
Woodwork expert and YouTube blogger, Peter Parfitt has been working with Osmo wood finishes for a number of years. He has built up a following of over 15,000 subscribers on YouTube, and regularly posts step by step videos that feature Osmo. This year, Peter accepted the challenge of creating a walnut TV and hi-fi cabinet, and documented his progress through four videos on the New Brit Workshop channel. In the final video, once the cabinet has been constructed, Peter explains the finishing process of sanding the cabinet and applying two coats of Osmo Polyx®-Oil Clear Gloss.
Peter comments, “It’s important when creating handmade pieces that the finish enhances and protects the product. Osmo not only offers a fantastic range of finishes to match any décor, but also provides the furniture with a durable coat that will protect it from general wear and tear. On this piece, I used Osmo’s Polyx®-Oil Gloss, which particularly complements the walnut wood and transforms it into a stand-out piece that would fit well in any lounge area. I hope that my YouTube viewers are as convinced as I am by the stunning effect that it creates.”
The finish is applied using a small brush and then wiped with a paper cloth to provide a thin and even coat. After each coat, Peter left the surface to dry for 8 – 10 hours. Applying with the grain, the finish provides a deep and mature sheen.
After treatment the wood is strengthened from within and retains its elasticity. It becomes water repellent, stain resistant and hard-wearing, because it meets the wood’s natural demands and does not crack, flake, peel or blister.
Osmo Polyx®-Oil is resistant to water and dirt, is very durable and smoothens wood surfaces. The natural vegetable oils and waxes allow for even colouring. Another key benefit of this wax-oil is that Polyx®-Oil has a reduced solvent content making it virtually odourless. Polyx®-Oil is a much healthier (and also more pleasant) wood care product to use for anyone suffering from asthma or other breathing problems. Osmo Polyx®-Oils do not contain biocides or preservatives, making it a much preferred product over the conventional, solvent-based oil or wax finishes.
