Ones to watch in 2019: Five key kitchen trends

New year, new kitchen? With the new year just around the corner, LochAnna Kitchens Managing Director and founder, Paul Jenkinson, gives his top 5 kitchen trend predictions for 2019 and beyond.

1. The True Handleless Kitchen

With handleless kitchens being popular throughout 2018, 2019 is going to be all about TRUE handleless kitchens to meet the growing request for a completely seamless kitchen look. So, what is a true handleless kitchen? “Our true handleless kitchen collection has been achieved by setting aluminium rails into the cabinetry under the worktop, meaning the door doesn’t need an integrated handle. This offers a streamlined finish with smooth lines allowing for easy transition between rooms making it perfect for open plan living,” comments Paul Jenkinson. Much like the European style, true handleless kitchens are extremely minimal when it comes to fixtures, offering clean lines and the most satisfying uniformity and symmetry. Great for an open plan family kitchen, the handleless design creates the illusion of a bigger room due to the continuous rail system throughout, achieving a flush and sleek kitchen has never been easier. LochAnna Kitchens recently released its FORM collection:  a range of four 4 true handleless kitchens with a broad selection of colour and style combination options.

2. Mixing Kitchen Cupboard Doors

“Shaker style mixed with a glossy flat slab. Smooth, matt-cupboards paired with woodgrain textured doors. Why not? 2019 is going to be all about mixing and matching different colours, textures and even entire kitchen collections,” predicts Jenkinson. To achieve this, you need a flexible designer and a kitchen furniture collection that is interchangeable. “With LochAnna Kitchens, you can quite literally interchange the doors with styles from our other collections, to create something totally unique to you,” comments Jenkinson. “The beauty is that our retailers will create something bespoke for you at the fraction of what a kitchen designer will charge.”

3. Dining Islands

Islands or breakfast bars work well for both a storage area and a place for dining. Taking this trend to a new level is the inclusion of an island seating area, this is where the kitchen island features an extension island dining area meaning you get the storage benefits of an island but also the addition of integrated dining. Creating a multi-purpose and practical space has always been the aim of open plan kitchen designs. However, we are now seeing broken plan design become popular as people look to open rooms whilst keeping an element of privacy in designated areas. When entertaining, we want to be able to integrate both cooking and socialising and what better way to do so than with built-in island seating. “Dining islands are on the increase so with our new FORM collection we have introduced an industrial breakfast bar leg to help simplify the application, making it even easier to achieve your dream kitchen layout” explains Jenkinson.

4. Bold Colours in the Kitchen

We are expecting braver colour choices to become available for kitchen furniture in 2019 with the scope to mix and match your design to create something personal to your style. LochAnna Kitchens are available in 140 colours, many of which have been carefully selected as a great way of spicing up your kitchen design. For a bold look, LochAnna Kitchens suggest mixing different materials such as metals and wood together to elevate your design to something truly unique.

5. The Rise of the Boot Room

For a perfect countryfied look, why not think about investing in a boot room for some handy extra storage that will help to keep your kitchen area clutter free. No matter the size, a boot room is the perfect way to keep muddy shoes and boots together in one area, away from the kitchen and the rest of the house. For a flexible space, freestanding solutions with inbuilt bench seats, coat racks and shoe storage solutions allow you to change layout and personalise the space for exactly what you need.
