Leading architectural practice, Pozzoni, has been appointed by Nuffield Health to design its state of the art, flagship hospital and wellbeing centre in central Manchester.
The integrated healthcare facility will be situated next to the Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust on the 5.4 acre Elizabeth Gaskell campus.
Director Nigel Saunders will lead the Pozzoni team, which also includes medical planner, Scott Tallon Walker and landscape architect Planit-ie, with Buro Happold, Curtins and Deloitte covering other disciplines.
Pozzoni was selected following a two-stage architectural design competition, including several high profile architects from across the UK, which requested innovative concepts for the redevelopment of the site on Hathersage Road.
Nigel Saunders, director at Pozzoni, said of the appointment:
“To be selected to design such a high profile project is fantastic for the practice. We are working closely with the wider team to develop the final detailed plans for the hospital and wellbeing centre, which will include modern digital operating theatres with intensive care, a hybrid theatre, diagnostic and imaging equipment, gym and rehabilitation provision, as well as 60 in-patient en-suite bedrooms and a modern daycase suite.”
Barbara Baker, Manchester Market Director at Nuffield Health, said:
“We are pleased to announce the appointment of Pozzoni to the Manchester development team. They have a wealth of experience in healthcare development and extensive knowledge of the regional health market.”
“The new hospital and our other facilities across the city are part of the complete health and wellbeing programme we have designed to improve the health outcomes of those living and working in the Manchester region. We are very excited to see it moving forward with this significant appointment.”
Pozzoni is also working with Nuffield Health to deliver its five star diagnostic suite at Citylabs on Oxford Road, Manchester, which will open in January.
