Construction contractor Novus Property Solutions has played an integral role in the first meeting of schools and businesses taking part in a Business in the Community partnership initiative in Staffordshire.
Stuart Seddon, chairman of Novus, took the lead at the introductory Staffordshire Cluster meeting, when representatives from the 12 organisations currently involved in the Business Class initiative discussed the development of their collaborations.
Stoke-on-Trent-based Novus has partnered with Thistley Hough Academy, also based in Stoke, as part of the flagship Business Class education programme. Business Class aims to create a sea change in the way businesses work with secondary schools by creating long-term sustainable partnerships.
The cluster meeting, held at Novus’ head office in Fenton, was attended by representatives from six schools and six businesses from the Stoke and Staffordshire area.
Each Business Class partner – including Sandon Business, Enterprise and Arts College, Keele University, Haywood Academy, Lucideon, Cooperative Academy, Steelite International, Staffordshire Sports College and Home Retail Group – was invited to give a brief introduction as to how their partnership is developing. Also included in the Staffordshire Cluster are Excel Academy and Hanley Economic Building Society.
One more school and one more business are set to join the Staffordshire Cluster, which has received funding from the UK Commission for Employment and Skills (UKCES).
Stuart Seddon said:
“At Novus we are committed to working alongside the communities within which we work and are delighted to be partnering with Thistley Hough Academy, with whom we are currently working on various projects including the development of a school farm.
“We are dedicated to the Business Class initiative, to building relationships within the Staffordshire Cluster and helping to get partnerships up and running. I am personally committed to the Business Class scheme and look forward to chairing forthcoming meetings and sharing best practice with fellow partners. We hope that this collaborative working will raise the profile of schools going forward to benefit every member of staff and every pupil.”
