Clare Watson, Director of Bernard Watson Decorators, and regional chair at the National Federation of Builders (NFB), has been shortlisted as ‘Tradeswoman of the year’ at this year’s Women in Construction Awards.
Now in its eighth year the awards provide a showcase for the brightest and the best female achievers in the UK construction and affiliated industries.
Clare has been working for Bernard Watson for 18 years and has drawn on an art and design background to bring a creative flair to her work. A highly skilled professional, she is a real force within the construction industry.
Despite being hugely successful herself, Clare recognises women in construction still have a long way to go. She said: “These awards certainly are a step in the right direction, there are lots of women contributing positively to companies and the wider industry, I like to think I am one of them!”
Women still only make up 10-13% of the industry’s workforce in the UK but there are many individuals, like Clare, working to make their mark in the sector.
The awards are about honouring not only the female talent within the industry but also the companies that are providing the opportunities.
The event takes place on 26th March 2014 at The Point, Lancashire County Cricket Club. http://www.womeninconstructionawards.co.uk/
