New office building enhanced with Siberian Larch from Panel Systems

Sheffield-based architectural panel manufacturer Panel Systems has supplied Siberian Larch timber clad panels to provide a striking effect to the façade of a new office and warehouse facility in Wells, Somerset.

The new building is the UK headquarters for Swedish company TePe, which designs and manufactures oral hygiene products.  Panel Systems fabricated the 37 insulated timber panels, which had a Styrofoam core, to achieve a U Value of 0.34 W/m2K.

The building is faced with aluminium cladding and the Siberian Larch panels were specified for their appealing aesthetics and to ensure the building complements its semi-rural surroundings. The panels were incorporated into the aluminium glazing on the TePe building, which accentuated the beauty of the larch boards. The square edge Larch boards were pre-fixed to the panel face in factory controlled conditions prior to delivery to minimise installation costs on site.

Danny Phelan, National Sales Manager at Panel Systems, said:

“We were proud to supply Siberian Larch panels to this prestigious project. Insulated timber panels are being specified more frequently for commercial developments and they were the perfect choice to ensure this building met both its thermal performance and aesthetic requirements.”

TePe has been based in Wedmore, Somerset for over 15 years and had outgrown its existing premises.  The new multi-million pound development at Cathedral Park in Wells has two floors of offices and a warehouse attached. The new development, which was complete at the end of last year, is approximately double the size of the company’s previous facility.

Architectural Panels with a Styrofoam core from Panel Systems offer exceptional thermal performance, high compressive strength, and low water absorption, making them highly suited for the application at the TePe project. Styrofoam is also available with zero ozone depletion and low global warming potential, meaning it is a sustainable choice.

Siberian Larch is a popular timber cladding option available from Panel Systems.  It is the choice of many architects and contractors due to the fact that it is extremely versatile, durable and aesthetically pleasing. The Larch timber can be preservative treated, for low maintenance, and will subtly weather over time to an attractive silvery-grey colour.  Growing timber takes carbon dioxide, the main greenhouse has, from the atmosphere, locking it up in the timber, making it a very sustainable material.
