LSI Architects LLP win prestigious Architectural Technology Award

One of the top 100 architectural practices in the UK was named the outright winner of the Open Award for Technical Excellence in Architectural Technology 2013 by the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists.

LSI Architects LLP’s winning project is the Louise Hamilton Centre. The Centre provides care and information services for those whose lives are affected by life limiting illnesses within East Anglia. The new build palliative care centre is in the grounds of the James Paget Hospital in Gorleston, Norfolk. Its design is based around the idea of providing a high quality inspiring space that will bring hope to patients and visitors. The judges were unanimous in their decision that this was an outstanding project that clearly demonstrates excellence within Architectural Technology and how the discipline contributes to the built environment and urban landscape.

Peter Durrant MCIAT, Chartered Architectural Technologist, of LSI Architects LLP said:

“We are absolutely delighted that the Louise Hamilton Centre has won such a prestigious Award. It’s a wonderful little building providing a great service to the local community, so to be recognised at a national level is very fulfilling.”

Highly Commended went to Scott Kyson MCIAT, Chartered Architectural Technologist, of Studio Kyson for the adaptation and reuse of a former Victorian furniture warehouse providing retail, restaurant and office space.

Commended was jointly presented to Edward Architecture for conversion of a baronial residence to a luxury hotel and to Once Architecture Ltd for a residential new build to form private leisure facilities over an existing pool structure.

Kevin Crawford MCIAT, Vice-President Technical and Chair of the judging panel said:

“We are delighted that once again, the winners of this Award have clearly demonstrated what Architectural Technology is all about and its essential position as the technology of architecture. It is making architecture work and function for its end user/s and also for the surrounding environment and culture. Each project is unique and varied combining good design with sound specification.”
